Are there now any Good Republicans?<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve been thinking for a while that there were, maybe a few, but as time passes and the Congress keeps rubber-stamping Trump&#8217;s authoritarian, anti-democratic demands\/orders, maybe not. This is how politics works. It&#8217;s as much about keeping your job, as about supporting governing principles.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/abuwjaawap.cloudimg.io\/v7\/_lgbtqnation-assets_\/assets\/2025\/09\/usatsi-26176835-168404765-lowres.jpg?auto=format&amp;auto=compress&amp;fit=crop&amp;gravity=smart&amp;w=772&amp;h=434\" width=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>LGBTQNation, commentary by John Gallagher, 2 Sep 2025<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2025\/09\/its-long-past-time-to-acknowledge-there-are-no-good-republican-politicians\/\">It\u2019s long past time to acknowledge there are no good Republican politicians<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Subtitle: &#8220;Trump has set the stakes so high that politicians who stay in the party are complicit in his attack on democracy.&#8221;<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The past seven months have been disastrous for American democracy and good government. Donald Trump has weaponized the Justice Department against his enemies, sent occupying forces into Democratic cities, and given the rich a tax break at the expense of everyone else. His lackeys have stripped the government of experts, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2025\/08\/gay-vaccine-chief-resigns-in-of-administrations-manipulation-of-data\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">destroying America\u2019s leadership in science and health<\/a> and replacing it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2025\/08\/rfk-jr-were-researching-if-gender-affirming-meds-cause-school-shootings\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">with crackpot theories <\/a>bound to cost lives.<\/p>\n<p>None of this would have been possible without the consent \u2013 indeed, complicity \u2013 of Republican politicians, particularly in Congress. At this point, the GOP and Trumpism are synonymous. And that means that there are no good Republican politicians.<\/p>\n<p>Identifying truly terrible Republican politicians has never been hard. They gleefully spout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2024\/11\/gop-leader-slammed-for-unhinged-x-posts-riddled-with-homophobia\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">homophobic<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2022\/10\/gop-senator-ron-johnson-says-hes-well-aware-kids-using-litter-boxes-schools\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">anti-trans<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/10\/11\/republicans-racism-sexism-tuberville-bolduc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">sexist<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2024\/09\/j-d-vance-claims-that-pet-eating-haitian-immigrants-are-spreading-hiv\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">xenophobic<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/09\/26\/nx-s1-5129844\/clay-higgins-racist-comments-haitians-backlash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">racist<\/a> comments while tripping all over themselves to out-Trump Trump.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the so-called \u201cserious\u201d Republicans who have proven that the party is beyond the bounds of saving. Time and again, given the chance to stand up to Trump and exercise some principles, they have chosen instead to cave, enabling his worst appointees to take office and his worst impulses to have free rein.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The piece goes on with recent news about the CDC, and mentions this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Every time something blows up, there are the usual hand-wringings by the \u201cserious\u201d crowd. Sen. Our nation was founded on the rock of Biblical Truth, and I will not stand by while the far-left attempts to push our country into the sinking sand.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Nonsense. I won&#8217;t count the ways, except to say his worldview is extremely limited. He and his kind are either dimwits, or arrogant.<\/p>\n<p>\\\\<\/p>\n<p>Once again, the Trump administration has hired people to &#8220;prove&#8221; the conclusions it wants.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static01.nyt.com\/images\/2025\/09\/02\/multimedia\/02cli-DOErebuttal-fzmh\/02cli-DOErebuttal-fzmh-superJumbo.jpg?quality=75&amp;auto=webp\" width=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>NY Times, 2 Sep 2025<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/09\/02\/climate\/climate-science-report-energy-department.html\">Scientists Denounce Trump Administration\u2019s Climate Report<\/a>, subtitled &#8220;Scores of researchers reviewed the Energy Department\u2019s argument about greenhouse gases and found serious deficiencies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>More than 85 American and international scientists have condemned a Trump administration report that calls the threat of climate change overblown, saying the analysis is riddled with errors, misrepresentations and cherry-picked data to fit the president\u2019s political agenda.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\\<\/p>\n<p>Alas, the wealthy are aligned with Trump, though this should be no surprise, since Trump&#8217;s policies favor the wealthy&#8230; because they contribute money to Republicans.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.joemygod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ElonMusk2025grok-660x330.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>JMG, 2 Sep 2025<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joemygod.com\/2025\/09\/nyt-how-musk-tweaked-grok-to-give-maga-answers\/\">NYT: How Musk Tweaked Grok To Give MAGA Answers<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A user on X complained that Grok\u2019s answers were too progressive after it said violence from right-wing Americans tended to be deadlier than violence from left-wing Americans \u2014 a conclusion matching findings from various studies and data from the Global Terrorism Database.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Musk replied on X that Grok was \u201cparroting legacy media\u201d too much and said the company was \u201cworking on it.\u201d Grok\u2019s answers shifted further to the right in response. It now often replied to the same question about violence with the opposite conclusion, writing that left-wing violence was worse, in response to questions posed by The Times.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Actual data doesn&#8217;t matter.<\/p>\n<p>\\\\<\/p>\n<p>Stepping out, looking at the bigger picture.
