That\u2019s what kids do. And I really don\u2019t want us to grow up in a country where a kid telling a stupid joke \u2014 telling a very offensive, stupid joke \u2014 is cause to ruin their lives.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\\<\/p>\n<p>The problem is this.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markrkelly.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/msnbc16oct25.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.markrkelly.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/msnbc16oct25.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>MaddowBlog, Steve Benen, 16 Oct 2025<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/rachel-maddow-show\/maddowblog\/jd-vance-doubles-pushes-ridiculous-defense-racist-republican-group-cha-rcna238010\">JD Vance doubles down, pushes ridiculous defense of racist Republican group chat<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Namely,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"anchor-81cf9b\" class=\"body-graf\">First, the idea that those responsible for racist, antisemitic and homophobic content, including comments about gas chambers, slavery and rape, were \u201cyoung boys\u201d and \u201ckids\u201d is factually wrong. The Republicans in question were adults. Some are in their 30s.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-2d0f31\" class=\"body-graf\">Consider this pertinent detail: One of the participants in the group chat <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/thetnholler.bsky.social\/post\/3m3btb7xixc2m\">is 35<\/a>. When Vance launched his U.S. Senate campaign in Ohio, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/arts-and-entertainment-government-and-politics-83e8bf8e1c90d88164b5a51fb1baf3c7\">he was 36<\/a>. If the vice president wants to argue that he was a \u201cyoung boy\u201d and a \u201ckid\u201d when he kicked off a bid for statewide office, fine. But I have a hunch that\u2019s not how he would characterize himself at the time.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>They weren&#8217;t kids.<\/p>\n<p>\\\\<\/p>\n<p>More to the point, Vance and others are excusing the vile comments made by grown-up Republican adults, while threatening to excommunicate or all but burn at the stake anyone who says anything less than adulatory about Charlie Kirk, who apparently has become some kind of god. But at least they&#8217;re consistent with what they approve of, and disapprove of. And not the least bit ashamed about it.<\/p>\n<p>\\\\\\<\/p>\n<p>Short items.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Media Matters, 15 Oct 2025<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/steve-bannon\/calling-their-opponents-demonic-some-right-leaning-online-shows-are-embracing\">Calling their opponents \u201cdemonic,\u201d some right-leaning online shows are embracing \u201cspiritual warfare\u201d rhetoric<\/a>, subtitled &#8220;Online figures and podcasters have warned of a &#8216;satanic world order&#8217; and called on their audiences to &#8216;fight these demons in culture if we&#8217;re going to win politically'&#8221; &#8212; These people are borderline insane. It compromises a hater\u2019s cardiovascular system with high blood pressure and heart disease. It weakens immune systems, making the hater more vulnerable to all sorts of illnesses. It weakens gastro-intestinal systems, causing stomachaches, nausea, and other digestive problems. It leads to difficulties falling and staying asleep. It causes muscle tensions that harm the jaw and neck, such as clenching and teeth grinding, and contributes to headaches and migraines.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\\<\/p>\n<p>Attempting another generalization: conservatives hate liberals, because liberals challenge their eternal verities. Liberals look at conservatives as somewhat dim, and a dangerous threat to ongoing human progress.<\/p>\n<p>\\\\\\<\/p>\n<p>I may have linked this before.
