He doesn\u2019t want voters to pay attention. He doesn\u2019t want voters to understand his actions.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ten years ago this month \u2014 after his Nevada caucus victory speech \u2014 Trump said, \u201c<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/trump-overwhelmingly-leads-rivals-in-support-from-less-educated-americans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>I love the poorly educated<\/u><\/a>.\u201d And his reliance on this base is why, over the past decade, he and other conservatives have purposely misconstrued the term \u201cwoke\u201d as a catch-all slur toward progressive and far-left policies. It used to mean \u201caware\u201d and \u201cinformed.\u201d The term was not born out of modern politics but rather the need to understand the history of the social economic systems we all are living in. The alternative is to be blindly led by an unscrupulous leader most concerned with his own well being.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To those of us not in the cult, &#8220;woke&#8221; still means aware and informed. It means educated. It means considerate.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Being \u201cwoke\u201d is why the Boston Tea Party happened in 1773; it is why Thomas Paine published \u201cCommon Sense\u201d in 1776; it is why Republicans formed the Wide Awakes to help get Abraham Lincoln elected in 1860. When voters understand the context in which decisions are made, we are better equipped to address shortcomings at the ballot box and in our daily lives.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s not about policy.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Trump\u2019s self-proclaimed love for the poorly educated has nothing to do with progressive policies or college degrees and everything to do with whom he can convince to believe him. And by making \u201cwoke\u201d an insult, Trump and other conservatives have politicized the very tool necessary to help the country fulfill its promise: information.<\/p>\n<p>This threat is the reason his administration attacks, and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/opinion\/story\/2026-01-30\/don-lemon-arrest-alex-pretti-gun-rights-2nd-amendment\"><u>even arrests, journalists<\/u><\/a>; the reason he refers to reports he doesn\u2019t like as \u201cfake news\u201d; the reason <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/opinion\/story\/2025-08-07\/bureau-of-labor-statistics-firing-economic-jobs-data\"><u>he fired the labor statistics chief<\/u><\/a> after an unflattering jobs report last year. He\u2019s waging a war on information.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\\\\<\/p>\n<p>For example. Trump cares more about perceived discrimination of whites in South Africa, and Jews on college campuses (pandering to his Christian conservative base), more than he cares about discrimination of anyone else, or about the universities themselves, and their pursuit and dissemination of knowledge and learning (and the advancement of the human race).<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static01.nyt.com\/images\/2025\/08\/29\/multimedia\/00hfo-nat-ucla-clwk\/00hfo-nat-ucla-clwk-superJumbo.jpg?quality=75&amp;auto=webp\" width=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>NY Times, 24 Feb 2026<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/02\/24\/us\/justice-department-ucla-lawsuit.html\">Justice Department Sues University of California Over Antisemitism<\/a>, subtitled &#8220;The Trump administration accused the university\u2019s Los Angeles campus of not doing enough to curb antisemitism, months after the government tried to cut research money and demanded more than $1 billion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\\\\<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salon.com\/app\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Donald-Trump-2262525635.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Salon, Chauncey DeVega, 24 Feb 2026<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salon.com\/2026\/02\/24\/why-trumps-creepy-emails-work-for-maga-faithful\/\">Why Trump\u2019s creepy emails work for MAGA faithful<\/a>, subtitled &#8220;The president\u2019s fundraising emails are part of a larger messaging campaign that has become increasingly menacing&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A weird mix of personal loyalty and the obsession of a former lover&#8230; as some of his MAGA voters are increasingly ignoring him.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the president\u2019s recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/politicalemails.org\/organizations\/415\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fundraising emails<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are part of a larger messaging campaign that has become increasingly menacing \u2014 even by Trump\u2019s standards. Like an obsessed former lover, the president has been telling his MAGA voters that he loves them but is hurt because they appear to be ignoring him. He is wounded that they don\u2019t answer his multiple emails or pick up the phone when he calls. Trump\u2019s emails also ask his supporters if they are avoiding him or if they have blocked his number.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Then his guilt-laden message turns threatening: \u201cDoes ICE need to come and track you down?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>How did we get here?? They&#8217;re about trying to understand why some people have a grasp on reality, and others don&#8217;t, and think that whatever they claim to be true must be real.
