It&#8217;s about the lingering of the atavistic part of human nature that sees everything tribally, and doesn&#8217;t understand and rejects change. Reich summarizes the MAGA fantasies:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Covid vaccine didn\u2019t work, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/policy\/trump-rfk-jr-cut-vaccine-children-78582411?st=BczJRa&amp;reflink=article_email_share\">vaccines cause autism<\/a>. But <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/atrupar.com\/post\/3mrrx4dbshf2x\">hydroxychloroquine<\/a> worked, and so did ivermectin. Anthony Fauci killed <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/atrupar.com\/post\/3mrs6d7xn7i23\">millions of people<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Climate change is a hoax. Wind power caused a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/07\/26\/politics\/fact-check-trump-wind-energy-tv\">massive TV blackout<\/a> during the Trump-Biden debate. Solar power is useless because the sun doesn\u2019t shine at night, and batteries don\u2019t exist. Smoke blanketed North America, not because of climate change, but because Canada <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/senators-react-trumps-idea-charging-canada-wildfire-smoke-ridiculous\">didn\u2019t rake<\/a> its 2 million square miles of boreal forest.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve destroyed Iran\u2019s military, and the Iranian regime is begging for a deal. Also, the U.S. isn\u2019t running out of precision weapons as a result of the Iran war, and furthermore the shortage is Joe Biden\u2019s fault.<\/p>\n<p>The economy is in a \u201cgolden age.\u201d Prices are down. And Trump has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/trump-lie-approval-rating-poll-b3013898.html\">59 percent approval rating<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump won the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>Communism is the greatest threat facing America.<\/p>\n<p>The modern American right is very good at hating. MAGA hates immigrants (unless they\u2019re white South Africans); it hates liberals; it hates scientists.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And this. Perhaps the inescapable part of human nature.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What the ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2026\/07\/29\/us\/trump-news-fauci-hearing\">show trial of Fauci<\/a> \u2014 which motivated this post \u2014 has really driven home, however, is that what Trump and his supporters hate most of all is reality. They know what they want to believe. They fly into paroxysms of rage whenever someone points out that the world isn\u2019t what they want it to be.
