David Remnick of The New Yorker<\/i>: An American Tragedy<\/a>:<\/p>\n \nThe election of Donald Trump to the Presidency is nothing less than a tragedy for the American republic, a tragedy for the Constitution, and a triumph for the forces, at home and abroad, of nativism, authoritarianism, misogyny, and racism. Trump\u2019s shocking victory, his ascension to the Presidency, is a sickening event in the history of the United States and liberal democracy. On January 20, 2017, we will bid farewell to the first African-American President\u2014a man of integrity, dignity, and generous spirit\u2014and witness the inauguration of a con who did little to spurn endorsement by forces of xenophobia and white supremacy. It is impossible to react to this moment with anything less than revulsion and profound anxiety.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n And Paul Krugman in New York Times<\/i>: Paul Krugman: Our Unknown Country<\/a>:<\/p>\n \nThere turn out to be a huge number of people \u2014 white people, living mainly in rural areas \u2014 who don\u2019t share at all our idea of what America is about. For them, it is about blood and soil, about traditional patriarchy and racial hierarchy. And there were many other people who might not share those anti-democratic values, but who nonetheless were willing to vote for anyone bearing the Republican label.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t know how we go forward from here. Is America a failed state and society? It looks truly possible.
