Something New and More Modern

  • Key points of a Democratic Project 2029;
  • Brief items: Kimberly Guilfoyle is out because she embarrassed Trump; Trump claims he doesn’t call people names (followed by a long list of names he’s called people); Trump keeps claiming that schools kidnap kids and force them to transition; Florida’s new science standards downplay evolution and climate change (of course).

The Democrats have a Project 2029.

Vox, Zack Beauchamp, today 15 Oct: The radical Democratic plan to change the government for good, subtitled “The party is finally mounting an aggressive response to Trump’s slash-and-burn second term. Could their ideas for a rebooted, reimagined Washington actually work?”

Well obviously no one administration can change the government forever, but it can certainly be restored to something better than what we have right now.

There’s a list of specifics about 9 screens down (on my laptop), but for now I’ll just quote the Key Takeaways at the top.

Democrats are developing their own equivalent to the GOP’s Project 2025 — a radical new vision for remaking the US government if they take power in 2028.

  • Their ideas would do two things: boost the government’s ability to deliver services efficiently, and constrain the anti-democratic abuses of the Trump era.
  • The goal isn’t just to rebuild the systems that Trump broke, but to use his destruction to rebuild the federal government into something new and more modern.
  • A lot remains to be worked out. The vision is emerging from different groups, only loosely connected. And there’s a built-in tension between empowering government and keeping a tighter leash on the White House.

Brief items about the retrogressive tribalists running our nation.

(Also there have been several stories recently about the grotesque effects of MAGA women who’ve undergone plastic surgery. There’s something called “Mar-a-Lago” face. Just as Elon Musk went through several gender-affirming surgeries to make himself look more manly. And Hegseth using makeup. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

  • JMG, today 15 Oct: Trump: “I Don’t Go Around Calling People Names”
  • *All he does* is call people names. That’s the signature of his presidency. Do his fans not notice? Why don’t they care?
  • James Tate replies on X: “Right meatball Ron, Talafreako, Little Marco, Trannie Andrews, AOC of Tennessee, Sleepy Joe and Autopen Joe, Mini Mike, Fat Alvin, Alfred E. Neuman (Pete Buttigieg), Sloppy Chris Christie, Crooked Hillary, Slimeball James Comey, Liddle’ Bob Corker, Lying Ted Cruz, Crazy Kamala, Peekaboo (Letitia James), Mamdani the Commie, Governor Newscum, Pee-wee Herman (Jon Ossoff), Jerome Too Late Powell, Shifty Schiff, Deranged Jack Smith, Pocahontas, and Marjorie “Traitor” Brown. ALL TRUMP nicknames.”
  • And he keeps saying things like this.
  • LGBTQNation, Alex Bollinger, today 15 Oct: “Lost his goddamn mind”: Trump claims Minnesota is kidnapping kids & forcing them to transition
  • Subtitled “People are wondering if he knows he’s lying while others are suggesting invoking the 25th Amendment.”
  • “Donald Trump said that six states can kidnap children from school and forcibly transition them, and that Minnesota was one of those states. This is not true in any state.”
  • This is so ludicrously implausible, why does anyone believe anything he says?
  • Friendly Atheist, Hemant Mehta, today 15 Oct: Florida’s new science standards downplay evolution and climate change
  • Subtitled “The proposed curriculum leaves students with disconnected facts while avoiding the scientific conclusions they’re meant to understand”
  • Again… Why should anyone accept science guidelines written by religiously-motivated Republicans?
