Emeryville Marina Park

Today’s walk was along another one of those several peninsulas that stick out into the Bay from the Berkeley shoreline, this one the southernmost, technically in Emeryville (famous for being the location of Pixar).

The peninsula, as seen in the photo from the Emeryville Parks page, has a couple high-rises at its base, then blocks of three-story condos, and then a marina, surrounded by landfill on two sides and a breakwater on a third, almost enclosing it. At the center corner is the Hong Kong East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, with food authentic enough that I’ve been there with my partner and his family a few times. Past that, seen horizontally in the photo, is Emeryville Marina Park, with a parking lot down the center, for Marina members, and grassy areas on both sides and walking paths. At the very end is the breakwater, with a pathway along the top. We went to the end of the peninsula itself, then turned back.

We parked as close to the base of the peninsula as I could to make the entire walk a decent one; it was 45 minutes or so. The park and pathways were only moderately busy, and probably only a third of visitors wore masks. (In the Bay Area, masks are still ubiquitous in markets and shopping malls, and I tend to wear one whenever near other people anyway, because of my immune-compromised condition.)

A pleasant sunny day, though a bit cool. Some of the grassy areas are big enough for picnics, and we saw one person doing yoga on a mat.

And now, this evening, I’m going to make this pasta/sausage/white bean recipe from the newspaper a few weeks ago.
